Ecological Federation of Romania (FER)
EFGP Delegate in Bratislava
1999

A Romanian proverb says that “unity makes strength”. This fact is well illustrated by the creation 10 years ago of the EFGP, at the time when the aspirations of the tens of ecological parties were materialized in a unique doctrine which offered a new model for the leadership of modern society. Therefore, from the beginning, the Romanian ecologists aspired to join the Federation, which announced itself as being efficient and innovative.

An invitation to me to the Istanbul meeting of the Green East-West Dialogue Group, as the Initiator of the “Convention for the Protection of the Black Sea against pollution” gave the possibility to my party - the Ecological Federation of Romania (FER) - to be admitted to the EFGP. At the invitation of our President, Professor Alexandru Ionescu, a well-known savant in the field of natural sciences and ecology, two EFGP representatives, Mr. Anne de Boer and Mr. Gyorgy Droppa, came to Bucharest to analyze the situation. As they were pleased with the results of the analysis, they proposed to the Committee the admission of our party to the EFGP. This happened during the Bratislava Meeting in 1999.

As the FER representative, I was very excited to present our request to join the EFGP. This request was accepted. The cooperation afterwards was successful, so that we organized in Romania the East-West Symposium on energy, another symposium concerning the interior waters of Romania and we were also the hosts of the EFGP Committee meeting in February 2000 in Bucharest. We were invited on a regular basis to all events which were organized by the EFGP or by the Green East-West Dialogue Group, trying to give our contribution to the discussed issues.

Regarding the EFGP programme, it is remarkable how it covers most of the questions which worry the modern world. It is not only limited to ecological and environmental problems, as people expect, but has also the answers to great problems, such as globalization, nuclear energy, all kinds of wars, racism, extremist attitudes, poverty in developing countries etc. All of these problems are being seen through a view point that privileges the environment and nature. Political ecology is the only doctrine which could save mankind from the disasters that could be caused by some irresponsible politicians. The European Greens are being invited to watch out for and to point out all the socio-economic-environmental distinctions and to prepare the member parties to get into power and to stop the destruction of our civilization.

In the name of FER and of our President, Mr. Alexandru Ionescu, I wish the European Greens a long life, full of successes and continuous victories, for the well being of our member parties and for a better political future of Europe.
